Ringwood's strongest beer was first brewed in late 1979 without a name, but a competition in the local press inspired Joe Leedham from Broadstone, Dorset to come up with a suitable zany suggestion! Although by no means our biggest seller because of its strength and high duty cost Old Thumper is our best known beer.
It has won many awards but is best remembered for being voted Champion beer of Britain by Camra in 1988.

After swapping a bad pint of Oxford Pride for this, I was very glad I did. A great warming pint of beer, very full flavoured and rich with well-balanced bitter and sweet notes.
It also packs a hefty 5.6% so good for a couple of pre-session pints.

Very nice ale, packed full of flavour with a really nice after taste. I'd say it's a kind of rolling flavour where you can taste the hops and malt, light spiced, hint of apple and other forest fruits. A real beast of a beer!

First came across this beer on a walking break in the Peak District and instantly liked the strong 'nutty' flavour. A really nice pint.
